When a favorite character in a story says or does something admirable, do you smile with approval or recognition? Taking it a step further, do you identify with this character when you wish you were more like them – as wise, as clever, or as brave? Do you sometimes even wish that a certain kind of character existed if only so that you could show them to someone else? That which is not real can yet hold the power of transcending truth, to be handled with the understanding that the receiver picks what matters to them, while the rest is not overwhelmingly important.
