McSweeney’s Internet Tendency – New Food Review (McSw’y’s Int’t T’nd’y)

I tried this incredible new sensation in a daring moment of culinary exploration, and it drove me to prose.

I haven’t read Proust, but one of his readers gave me a recipe for Madeleines, which I learned and enjoyed very well.  His ode to the cookie, understood through the cookie, reminded me that sometimes deliciousness must be given word.

On Timothy McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, scroll to the bottom of the fourteenth batch of New Food Reviews to discover the Peanut Brittle Cheesecake.  If you think you wouldn’t try a bite of it, you would probably still laugh at its effect on me.

It was during SASQUAN, in Spokane, Washington at the Davenport Grand Hotel, that this confection found its way to my table.  You can seek it.

For another culinary tidbit, the second review in the first batch of 2003… yes, 2003… features my assessment of Chocolate-Covered Sunflower Seeds.  For the record, those abbreviated letters are Philadelphia, Random, and Hale.  Those seeds – if you happen to find any, give a friend a holler.

A partial dedication

Green sap of Spring in the young wood a-stir
Will celebrate the Mountain Mother,
And every song-bird shout awhile for her;
But I am gifted, even in November
Rawest of seasons, with so huge a sense
Of her nakedly worn magnificence
I forget cruelty and betrayal,
Careless of where the next bright bolt may fall.
